Farmers warned to beware of rogue tarmac gangs

Farmers are warned to beware of rogue tarmac gangs targeting their premises. The gangs either door knock or more recently (and in a new twist to an old scam) phone the farm and claim they have some left over tarmac they want to get rid of.
They imply that they would rather tip the tarmac on the farm driveway to cover a few potholes as a favour, rather than have to dispose of it. If the farmer agrees, the rogue gang arrive quickly, spread the tarmac and then demand thousands of pounds with menaces!
Make a scam/rogue trader complaint to Trading Standards via Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 03454 040506.

Dumping Rubbish on the Rec

Message from the Parish Council
The Byelaws of the Rec prohibit dumping of rubbish, soil and other such materials. Not withstanding that, fly tipping is illegal and punishable with a fine upto £1000. It is also a crime and can result in a jail sentence and criminal record.
If anyone is caught, Rugby Borough Council will prosecute.

Call For Second Hand Children's Books

In November, local resident Kate Lee will be doing some voluntary work in Ghana. Kate will be writing a future strategy for supporting families with children with cancer in a country where childhood cancer treatment is not free and only a small percentage of Children are ever even diagnosed.
As part of this Kate will be visiting hospitals and villages. While she is funding the trip herself, Kate is looking for donations of second hand children’s books & colouring sets to take with her, or small cash donations to buy sweets or Travel cards for families.
Anyone that would like to help all support would be gratefully received. Please drop in at 2 church road (top of the A45 underpass). Anything that can’t be use will go to support children with cancer here in the UK.

Parish Council Update

Progress with Village Projects
• The Village Hall car park was completely resurfaced in July and now looks very much smarter.
• The Pavilion refurbishment is continuing, the latest stages being rewiring the electrics and insulation and relining of the ceilings.
• Following a long and tortuous process we have at last received notification that we have been awarded a grant towards the renovation of the War Memorial. This work will now be progressed.
• Work has continued to clear Ryton Water Meadow at the bottom of Church Road. In September we plan to replace the access gates and fencing on the boundary with Redland Lane.
• Also in September we have arranged for a specialist contractor to carry out a full refurbishment of the play equipment on the Recreation Ground: climbing frame, zip wire and enclosed children’s play area. Apologies that this will mean the area is out of use for a few days but it should be a big improvement.
