Candlelit Christmas Concert with Carols

Come along to a ‘baroque’ candlelit christmas concert, performed by the Warwickshire Baroque. The concert is to be held at St Leonard’s Church on Saturday 5th December at 7:30pm. Tickets are £7.50 and can be purchased from the Rev David Wintle  (see Event for contact details).
The Warwickshire Baroque say (taken from their website):

We are a group of semi-professional and amateur players who aim to bring music from the 17th and 18th centuries to life by adopting original baroque principles rather than mid-20th century performance practice.

The Bells of St. Leonard’s

BellMany of us have been saddened that we no longer hear the bells before services at St. Leonard’s, and we now hope to get together a team of bell-ringers again.
We have an excellent ring of 8 bells and have found an experienced local bell-ringer who has volunteered to provide instruction. So all we need are enthusiastic volunteers to bring our bell-tower to life again. Experienced and less experienced ringers are welcome, as well as keen beginners young and old. It’s not rocket science: the main things you need are enthusiasm, willingness to learn and commitment to being part of a team.
Are you a budding campanologist? Please volunteer by getting in touch with Churchwarden Mrs. Janet Smith on 02476 306224.

Sunny Day Out For Football And Fête

Fete BuntingWhat a lovely sunny day we had for the annual Fête and Football Competition. Fun was had by all, and hopefully this should go a long way to raising sufficient money to run St Leonard’s Church. If you have ever wondered why we need to raise money for the church and what it gets spent on, then read about fund raising for St Leonard’s in Rev Wintle’s own words.
The BBQ was a huge hit, running out of food and having to visit the local Co-Op for more stock. If that is anything to go on, we hope the other stalls also saw record demand.
A great many people put a lot of time and effort into organising the annual Fête and Football Competition and so we thank them all for their efforts in making this annual event such a success and of course we also thank everyone who attends and supports our community and church. We hope to see you all again next year – fingers crossed for a repeat of this year’s great weather.
Below are some photos of the day. If you have more photos we can publish then you can send them to us using Contact Us (use Category of Other).

Ryton's Got Talent

Rytons Got TalentRyton-on-Dunsmore and the C.O.N.G.A. Need Your Help!

Can you mow a lawn? Babysit for a few hours? Bake and ice a cake? Give a lift to and from Leamington or to BHX? Iron a basket of clothes? Wash a car?
Then we need your talent…
In the spirit of the Community Gathering and to ensure the C.O.N.G.A. carries on each year, we are looking for people from the village to donate a talent or skill to help raise money:

  • On the night of the C.O.N.G.A. we will hold an auction of talents
  • Each talent will be auctioned off to the highest bidder

Please email henrytowers@orange.net and state the talent or skill you would like to donate and we shall add you to the C.O.N.G.A. auction list!
See you Saturday 27th June on the Recreation ground.

Fête & Football Competition 2015

Fête 2014 Montage

Fête 2014 Montage

The Fête & Football competition is the biggest village event of the year, taking place on Saturday 27th June. It is well supported by the community and the football event always brings in a good number of visitors – this year it is a Juniors only competition. We think that the average attendance over the course of the day could be as many as 500 – 600 people. With good weather perhaps even more.
For the first time last year we followed the Fête & Football by putting on what was dubbed the CONGA event.  Contrary to popular myth, this was not the kind of event that would see those attending doing the conga all round the rec (although just for irony sake there was a short burst of a conga at the end of the evening!).  CONGA was initiated by the local WI – TWIRLS – and was intended to enable a community gathering which went on through the evening. A chance for everyone to have a good time and a chance to ‘chill’ after the hectic day. A marquee, tables, chairs were provided and we had a jazz singer. People brought their own food and drink and despite the fairly dismal weather, it was a great evening.

Gebby Sings at Fête CONGA

This year we are hoping to keep things going almost seamlessly and we plan to have a quiz to take us from late afternoon into early evening. We are pleased to announce that Gebby Eaton will be singing for us once again and we anticipate a greater turn out this year, and so are hiring a larger marquee.
Please do come and join in, there will be a be a bar running all day with lager and beer available throughout the day and evening  –  unless of course we sell out!  Those of you who have queued and waited whilst the antiquated bar kit we had took an age to deliver a pint, will be relieved to know that we have hired a device which will allow a much speedier service for lager, and we have the use of the amazing Beermate 3000 with which pints of real ale will be drawn. Of course you’re welcome to bring your own drinks as well as whatever kind of picnic supper you fancy. Last year a number of us brought a take away to the event, whilst others shared a good spread of party food.
Please note that for everyone’s safety we do ask that all tableware is UNBREAKABLE.
See below for a selection of images from last year’s Fête.

If you would like to get involved with the event in any way please contact Fiona at fionatetlow79@googlemail.com or Frances at david@wintled.fsnet.co.uk, or call 02476 301283.

Your Church Needs You! Can You Help?

Fete BuntingThe small team of people involved in bringing the fête and football event on to the Recreation ground each year is getting smaller and needs support and energy.
Fête 2014 MontageThe Fête & Football is a great social event and, in the way that it brings much of the village together, its value is enormous.  However, its importance financially cannot be understated.  For some years now it has made up a significant part of the church’s income and, unless we can maintain this income, and even increase it, St Leonard’s may fail to pay its way this year. We need heads to help plan, we need shoulders to share the responsibilities and we need bodies and hands to help on the day.
Please let the Rector, David Wintle, know on 02476 301283 if you are willing to support the church in one or all of these ways, and if you can, do please let me. Read more about St Leonard’s church is funding…
