Ryton-On-Dunsmore Neighbourhood Plan Referendum 6th May 2021
What is the Neighbourhood Plan?
The Localism Act of 2011 introduced the concept of Neighbourhood Plans. These Plans give local communities a much greater opportunity to influence future development in their areas.
In 2017, Ryton-on-Dunsmore Parish Council embarked on the preparation of a Neighbourhood Plan to give Parish residents the opportunity to say what development within the Parish should look like, and to be involved in shaping the future of the Parish in which they live. This Plan will be used by Rugby Borough Council when deciding on planning applications in the Parish.
The Plan was developed by the local community, rather than the Local Planning Authority (Rugby Borough Council), and after extensive local consultation to ensure it accurately reflects the wishes of Parish residents, the Plan was finally completed last year. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic we were unable to hold a referendum at the time. Having been delayed for a year, this final ratification stage will now go ahead this year on 6th May 2021.
During week commencing 22nd March polling cards will be issued to residents in the Parish to vote on the Neighbourhood Plan…the countdown has started!
What question is on the ballot paper?
‘Do you want Rugby Borough Council to use the Ryton-on-Dunsmore Neighbourhood Plan to help it decide planning applications in the Ryton-on-Dunsmore Neighbourhood Area?’
What would a YES vote mean?
If a simple majority vote YES to the Plan in the Referendum, it will become part of the statutory Development Plan for the District. Any planning decisions and conditions e.g. on housing and the environment, within our Parish must be made with reference to our Neighbourhood Plan.
What would a NO vote mean?
If a simple majority vote NO to the Plan, the local protections and conditions stated in the Policies will not apply and Rugby Borough Council will make planning decisions based upon Rugby-wide and national policies.
